Lesson 5 — Integration & Pattern Updating

This lesson examines how patterns update when safety is preserved. Change becomes possible when prediction shifts — not through force.

MMI: Safety → ClarityNoticing = Progress
Success definition: Understanding precedes restructuring.

Concept Focus

  • Patterns update when the nervous system encounters new evidence under regulated conditions.
  • Repetition alone does not alter prediction if threat or identity disruption is anticipated.
  • Integration allows new information to coexist without defensive override.
  • Behavior shifts only after prediction shifts.
  • Orientation and clarity reduce internal resistance over time.
MMI Note: In MMI, repatterning is the outcome of successful integration — not behavioral enforcement. A pattern updates when regulation is preserved, alternative responses prove non-threatening, and identity continuity remains intact.

How to Use This Lesson

1) Watch the lesson, then listen to the audio.

2) Open Textbook (optional)

Read textbook, if you need deeper clarity.

3) Workbook and Reflection journal as needed (optional)

Use workbook if deeper clarity is desired. Observation only. Pause when you feel done.

Ask Sage

Select one prompt — or observe without response.

  • What consistent pattern became visible across this module?
  • What does my system protect most reliably (certainty, belonging, competence, control, continuity)?
  • What would safe updating look like in one limited area?
  • Which cue could I notice earlier next time?
  • What conditions allow new evidence to feel non-threatening?

Integration Complete

If you can articulate what your system predicts and protects — and how integration reduces defensive override — this level’s objective is met. Integration in MMI is cumulative and non-linear. Orientation is sufficient. You may continue when ready.
